Artist’s Bio
Garen was born in Yerevan, Armenia in August of 1985. In 1992 his family immigrated to NYC. After receiving a diploma from Brooklyn Technical HS he continued his education at Stony Brook University, where he received a BS in biology. His heavily saturated science and technology background has helped create a solid foundation from which his creative passions have spawned. This, coupled with a constant stream of inspiration from his surroundings has concentrated his aesthetic vision towards fashion photography. Garen currently lives and works in New York City.

Why I needed the Pro-8Air for this shot:
“I’m obsessed with motion and movement. Finding the moment where hair, lighting, motion and expression all come together perfectly is what I want. I wanted to exaggerate the model’s motion, so I slowed down the shutter speed. As fast as I was able to press the shutter on my camera, that’s how fast the lights went off, but with full power. The smoke machine actually stopped working and had to cool down, but my Profoto gear never needed a break. I used three of the ProHeads and two Profoto Pro-8a Air packs, plus the 5º and 10º degree Honeycomb grids. It was a great shoot at very high speeds, and Profoto made it possible.”
