Artist’s Bio A native of Ashland, Virginia, Roemer attended the Rochester Institute of Technology as an Advertising Photography major. Graduating a year ago, she’s now working as a digital photography technician in New York City. With experience assisting Andrea Blanch, Johnny Miller, Raymond Hom and Nicholas Duers, Roemer has focused on product photography as her preferred niche. “I have countless ongoing ideas, and I look forward to seeing what happens in the future,” she says.
Roemer shoots a wide variety of bodies, including an ARCA-SWISS 6x9 View camera with a Leaf Aptus digital back, which was used to capture her winning shot. She also shoots a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, and for personal travel photos, an Olympus OM-2. With plans to become a full-time freelance photographer, Roemer knows what direction she’s headed in. “I’m drawn to showcasing products and how best to portray them,” she says. “There are many ways to hold and view a product, but I like showing people how I see it. It’s a challenge, and I want others to have an attachment to both my image and the product as well.” Why I needed the Pro-8Air and two Profoto D1 500w Airs for this shot: I always wanted to freeze a splash. I love the process of making a photograph. The contest motivated me, and I couldn’t have done it without the Profoto Pro-8a. It’s wonderful and easy to use, especially with the flash duration of 1/12,000th of a second. The recycling is really, really fast. Overall, it’s incredible, and I love how you can adjust to one-tenth of an f-stop at a time. I had a tank of water and kept dropping the product and shooting until I got what I was looking for. The Pro-8a was right there for every shot. |
