Pro-8a Air Features

A workhorse with digital precision

As an assistant, your job is to solve problems. The Pro-8a Air gives you the tools you need to solve those problems. Either as an assistant or as photographer, you'll be pleased to learn the Pro-8a Air hosts a variety of features unmatched by any other flash manufacturer. The first is speed. Blazing speed! It will allow you to design lighting for applications previously unheard of, such as recycling at 20 frames per second, flash duration as short as 1/12000th of a second or being able to run all day from ordinary household current without tripping a circuit breaker on a 15A circuit (in USA). And the Pro-8 Air Remote allows you to adjust output and control modeling lamps on an infinite number of generators and heads.

One of the critical success elements in studio or location electronic flash photography is consistency. Actually, two kinds of consistency. One is light output and the other is color temperature. When you set up complicated lighting, you can be more confident knowing that at any given time, the Profoto Pro-8 Air fires within plus or minus1/50th of an f/stop. The same goes for color temperature. If your strobe is putting out a wide variation in color temperature, you will face an awful lot more post-processing. On the other hand, if it produces consistent results - plus or minus 50-degrees Kelvin - you can save a lot of time afterwards by batch processing. Good lighting means consistent lighting, something your boss will appreciate.

As a photo assistant, it's helpful to know all those great Profoto light shaping tools, in fact all accessories including heads, work with the Pro-8 Air. Photographers and assistants, working together, can design and execute lighting designs the same way they always have, with reliable, consistent and proven Profoto technology.
