Smashbox Studios

Wednesday, March 11. So far it was a quiet day in Tinseltown. Nothin' much happening on the strip. High noon. Let's head over to West Hollywood, to Smashbox Studios. Heard Profoto was putting on a demo for assistants to show the awesome capabilities of the Pro-8 Air. Hey, What's going on here? Acrobats flying through the air! Break dancers spinning, cartwheeling head over heels action! Judging by the strobes going off, it seems like there are dozens of photographers shooting the action. But no, only one, with two Pro-8 Air packs and two strip lights. 10 frames per second and the Pro-8 Air's are not even maxed out. Can your camera do 20? The Pro-8 Air could keep up with you. And to boot, exposures would be short - as little as 1/12,000th of a second - so the action is frozen crisply.

The crowd of photographic assistants came from a variety of shops: private studios, large design firms, students, Advertising Photographer's of America assistants' program, Smashbox regular customers and old-fashioned word-of-mouth.

There were two shooting areas, one for the acrobats and one for a photographer to work one-on-one with a fashion model. At hand were the usual Profoto Light Modifiers and about 10 Profoto Pro-8 Air generators. There was nothing a creative assistant couldn't accomplish!

Full set of photos from the event are in our Flickr set.

Thanks, one and all, for coming out and spending the evening with the Pro-8a Air.

See you in the next city! RSVP here >>
